Alex Baily The project investigated the site in its historical and geological context, taking the latest manifestation of Russell Square in London, a hypothetical, fantastical undulating landscape, as just the latest of many layers of programme and geology which form the site. The proposition cuts a trench into the newest Russell Square, this cut then becoming a mediating space between the city and the park, diffusing the boundary between the two. It draws in the activities and cultural phenomena of the surrounding city to create a diverse, street-like space where many programmes coexist and overlap from flea-markets and artists’ studios to performance and outdoor sex. |
